Why are you Bloated?

4 Reasons You Are Constipated (And Simple Ways to Relieve it!)

I remember being in your shoes feeling like I was spinning my wheels and not getting anywhere with finding relief for my constipation.

I was following all the advice, like “drink more water” or “eat more fiber”. But nothing was changing. I questioned if I could ever find true relief, or if I was stuck with painful digestive symptoms for life.

Let me ask you this, what if the reason your symptoms continue coming back isn’t from you doing something wrong OR that this is your new normal, but because you haven’t truly addressed the source of it?

Just like pulling out a weed, we need to address digestive symptoms from the source.

It wasn’t until I started to dive into a more functional approach to health and learn to heal myself that I realized that digestive health is more than what we consume. To find relief, I needed to identify the root cause, not just do a bandaid approach for a quick fix.

Let’s take a look at 4 reasons you might be constipated and a simple shift you can make TODAY to find relief:

  • Lack of variety in your diet: Here’s the thing, the more food you cut out, the less diversity in your gut. To find constipation relief, diversity in your microbiota is critical!  Take it from me, the more I avoided eating balanced meals, the worse my symptoms were. Start to explore new ways to bring back your favorite foods! Pro tip: the farmers market is my favorite place to explore food variety. Go to your local farmers market and buy something new and in season!
  • Snacking all day: Not to say you can’t snack, but when you are constantly doing it your gut never has the chance to “rest and digest” in between meals. This is putting your gut in a state of overworking, which is why you experience symptoms. Find time to give your gut a break!
  • Dehydration: If you feel like you ARE drinking a lot of water, here’s the trick: you need to absorb that water. Incorporate electrolytes like sodium, magnesium, and potassium so your body can reap the benefits of hydration. If you are curious to learn more about this, see this reel I posted on Instagram.
  • Inadequate sleep: This one is IMPORTANT. A lack of sleep doesn’t energize you, doesn’t allow your body to reset, and will increase stress. When you sleep, this is a great time for your gut too, again, “rest and digest”, but also for your body to rest, which is crucial for the optimal function of your physical and mental body.

When you address these factors and are open to investigating other underlying root causes, you are allowing yourself to set the stone for the path of sustainable relief.

Your body isn’t broken. You are simply forgetting that you are a complex being that has a missing piece to your overall puzzle.

This healing journey you are on is not a solo one. I work with many women who feel the same way you are feeling right now. The change they made to continue down this path with confidence was when they were able to bring curiosity to the table.

Instead of having judgment towards their body, they started working WITH their body. The relief came with ease! Because when you are trying to control, stressed about symptoms, and working against your body, resistance shows up.
